The visible surface is only one part. Compare the board, finish, edge and hardware together.

The board beneath a finish affects how cabinetry behaves. Plywood, MDF and particleboard are different materials; the correct choice depends on application, grade and site conditions.
Ask for manufacturer, grade and thickness.
